Saying Yes: Day #3

After I wrote yesterday, I continued to ponder the idea of saying yes to myself by delaying my departure. I woke up this morning and meditated as usual to allow ideas to flow in about how my day could unfold in the best way. Knowing that I’d spend the majority of the day in a car made it very clear that going for a bike ride or run had to happen.

Since I won’t be taking my bike on the trip – and can run pretty much anywhere – I decided to take a spin around the neighborhood. Over the 6.5 miles, I said hello and was greeted by almost everyone I passed. This lifted my spirits and made me happy to have made this choice.

Slightly overcast, the warm temps of the day were off to a slower start. Feeling the wind on my face as I rounded the three lakes on my path helped me lighter and free. Satisfied with that choice, I decided to go on a short run when I got home. Though my legs were tired from an intense weight workout and yoga class earlier in the week, every step in the single mile I ran felt good.

As I stretched and cooled down, some new affirmations began flowing into my head. A couple of notes - “I am worth every investment I make in myself.” “My peace of mind is my most valuable asset.” By the time I got up from stretching, I decided that today was an investment in my peace of mind and I am not going to leave yet. I have several important tasks that need to be completed and when they are will allow me to focus on the trip. Similarly, some of the things I was trying to wedge into the days before the conference I am attending can wait. Whether I do them now, a week from now, or even a month from now is totally my choice. Yes, there is a cost to putting them off, but there is also a cost to trying to rush through them. I’ve been allowing the pressure of “should” and “ought to”  - both from myself and others push me int thinking I have to do it all now. The truth is, I am worth the cost of waiting until after my big event this weekend to get them done. I want to be fresh, excited, rested, and energized going into this event for SheVOLVE – not exhausted, emotional, drained, and fragile. If I wait on the tough stuff, I have a much better chance of having a successful event AND maybe having better tools to do what needs to be done after it’s over.
