Cut the Complaining: Day 2.5

Cut the Complaining. “If you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say anything at all.”

After I wrote earlier, I came across the following in “Instead of Complaining, Try This” which helped me SO much!

“Let’s look at the Greek word for complain. It is goggysmos which is an onomatopoeic word derived from the sound made when murmuring with the idea of complaint. The online Bible, Blue Letter Bible, has an interesting definition of goggysmos:

a murmur, murmuring, muttering, a secret debate, a secret displeasure not openly avowed…”

The article goes on to describe complaining in a way that makes it sound more like gossip – that is, talking about someone or something to someone who is not able to help the issue. Instead, it suggests having direct communication with the person who can help you deal with the issue. Wow – that helps so much.

Another article, “Where to Take Your Complaints” talks about giving your complaints over to God and letting them go. Surrender may be the answer for some things, and going straight to the person who can help you with them on others.

Bottom line: The answer I got was that “not complaining” does not mean staying silent. It means speaking up or doing something about the issue with or through the appropriate source so it can be handled or handed off.
