Give Up Electronics for 1 Hour: Day #3

Challenge 1 – Give up electronics for 1 hour a day to putter, free think, nap, be creative, rest or do nothing.

Last night, I went to bed just before midnight after reading for about an hour. Woke up before 7 AM with no alarm and felt good, motivated. Meditation seems to be bringing me my “to-do” lists of the important stuff and I am getting a lot of it done first thing. These are often the tasks that honor and support me rather than stuff I am doing for work or others.

In conjunction with this detachment from electronics, I also am on a break from alcohol – today is day 6. This is actually not much of a challenge since I gave up drinking as a habit for the most part about nine years ago. That said, the last few months have presented a lot of social opportunities – and a bit of stress – that have resulted in me choosing to drink more than normal. It wasn’t that much – maybe 3-5 drinks a week. However, I began to feel the cumulative impact in my body (a little weight gain, morning grogginess after a large glass of wine the night before, fatigue.) When joint pain joined the mix, I knew I had to take a step back from this effective and tempting social lubricant.

Anyway, the combined effect of unplugging/cutting back on social media and not drinking is more time and energy for other things including writing this journal. Yay me! I am excited to see what else I notice over the next few days of the challenge!
